QOTd: “What is a Stone Remnant?”

A remnant is the excess stone left over after the fabrication of a stone project. Originally a portion of a full slab, remnants are created once slabs are cut into.

With a mission to reduce or eliminate the waste of precious natural stones, fabricators and clients can always find a use for even the smallest stone remnants. In fact, if there’s enough leftover material, remnants can be the remnants of other remnants.

To achieve this goal of sustainability, the fabricator will take the following steps before cutting into the project’s selected stone.

  1. It all begins with a plan. The first step with all projects at Adamo Stone Design is understanding the project’s layout and dimension requirements.

  2. Once the client has chosen a natural stone material for their project, the fabricator can then determine which remnant or slab will be the most efficient fit for the layout. Clients can actually review all of the slabs and remnants at Adamo Stone Design— we are one of the few fabricators that have a collection of inventory on site.

  3. In an effort to reduce or eliminate the waste of precious natural stones, the fabricator must ensure the project’s dimension requirements not only fit within the remnant/slab but have the least amount of excess material before cutting.
